With much of the ice reports being mediocre and the weather warming up, we decided we'd take our hungry ice fishing pontoons out to the Powell for a chance at some early Strippers.
The weather was a great 70+ degrees with clear blue water and LM swimming the banks everywhere. We threw almost everything we had out to no avail. One came up to one of our grubs but turned the shoulder and ran off with a Carp. Looks like they are getting ready for the spawn. Later in the evening we decided we'd hit the cold slips and fish them till we came up with some Strippers. Nothing there until about mid-night when a large school of Crappies came by. Seeing what I thought was a Stripper was actually a Crappie. Came up but missed the hit. Hooked many small cats. Fished til 2am and got ourselves into some Strippers and Crappies. Overall, beautiful weather. For those of you who travel out.
*The picnic area bathrooms are not open. Only the Gas station and Slips.
