late late fishing report FLORIDA
#1
Sorry for the late fishing report. my computer has been down and working six days a week I finally got my computer going again. My brother and I went to florida fishing for largemouth and peacock bass. we fished for 5 days the second week of march. We caught a lot of largemouths the biggest was 6 pounds and my brothers was 5 1/2 pounds. Two days of fishing were in the canals near Miami for peacock bass. We caught 25 peacocks the first day and 34 peacocks the second day. Those are the hardest fighting fish pound for pound that I have ever caught. Those fish will fight until they are nearly dead before they give up. We caught some small ones and my bro caught the biggest that was 5 lbs. my biggest was just over 4 pounds. I can't explain how hard they fight and how much fun I had fishin with my brother.
As for peacock bass we caught all of them but one on live shinner minnows. For largemouth bass it was all plastics and top waters for us. Thank's James, at Maniac Custom Lures enough for getting my order out in time for me to take them to florida. I caught the biggest largemouth bass on a Maniac 5" salt stick in junebug. I caught bass off of the junebug, baby bass, changeable craw, changeable craw chartruese tip salt sticks. I used 4" and 5" salt sticks from maniac custom lures. Those salt sticks worked just as well in Florida as they have for me on smallies and largemouths back here in Utah, Wyoming and Idaho, A++++

Hey that's a great report, glad you had some fun in the sun. If you don't mind could you post this in the Florida board as well. My southern anglers would love to hear what you have to say.

[cool][#0000ff]No doubt about it, the canals in Southern Florida have some great fishing...and are full of surprises. Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are gonna get. Many of the waterways around Ft. Lauderdale have quite a few species of aquarium fish gone wild...like big oscars and Jack Dempseys. They get several pounds and have an attitude.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Also some wierd looking varieties of catfish, and the big grass carp in those canals grow to be over 50 pounds. There is one guide down there that specializes in taking fly rodders along the canals casting to those big dudes.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]You just about need a boat if you get into any remote area at all. Lotsa gators and snakes too.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Were your peacocks the barred or spotted...or both?[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]Careful, Brody, you'll have a swarm of DWR folks knockin' on your door. Ain't good to advocate that stuff.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Anyhooters, those tropical showoffs can't handle our cold Utah waters. They roll over and die if the water drops below about 70.[/#0000ff]

Hey i know some spots in Miami that hold some nice size peacocks! [Wink] I used to have a canal in my backyard there and man there were some huge fish there in the holes!! I used to get them to come out with bread. Also you have snook and tarpon come into the canals looking for food and that is a bonus!! To bad the peacocks cant stand the cold weather .[pirate]
