rod holders
#1
foam insulation for couragutad roofing sold at your big chain home improvement centers make for great rod holders for the wall and a three bucks for a 4' strip it's a bargin !

also , thoes p.v.c. flag holders ( around three bucks ) mounted to your fishing bucket or cart will hold your rods strait up in the air , making it easyer to move thru crowded areas like docks without pokeing someones eye out .

Hi there lonehunter,

I knew it, I knew it! You been holdin' out on us letting us think we were so darn clever with our ideas. That's two good ideas I'll bet have a bunch of applications. I have both a Home Depot and a Lowe's Home Center within 1 mile of my house. I call them the 'candy stores'. At first, I had guys half-way following me around because I would spend an hour checkin' stuff out, measuring, etc. then leave empty handed.

Well, I finally would buy something, then another, then another and they finally realized I was just wierd but harmless.

Gotta watch out though, I've spent more on making some stuff than it would have cost to buy the same thing that is twice as good.

If it's too good an idea, patent it, otherwise share is my motto.

Keep 'em comin',

yea , i used to get pissed when i got followed by store security when i was thinking of different applications for things , then i started playing hide and go seek with them , or i would argue with an invisible friend i had with me , some times i would ask the next clerk i saw to call there security guard because that guy following me was blowing kisses at me . it made the shopping experience interesting . after a while they let me do my inovative thinking without hassel .

another thing , the swimming noodels that kids use , a gazillion uses for them . boat guards , edge guards , pipe insulation , luggage rack covers , slip them on your antenna in a large parking lot , covers for your sharp garden tools . when towing or pulling something using a chain , cover the chain with it for protection from snapping . well worth the buck each price tag .

Hi lonehunter,

I've made a bunch of small live bait tanks/cages from PCV pipe and a laundry bag. To make it easy to handle and easy on the float tube's sides and the little fishies, and makes the things more floaty, I put the noodle stuff over the sections of the PVC pipe.

yes i'de definatly put that stuff on my top ten list of things that have a million and two uses .

i use bungie cords attached to the seat belt roof anchors , ( two from side to side across the passenger area , two from side to side in the cargo area ) i slip my rods between the bungies and use 2" lengths of the noodle as spacers ( each set of bungies thru the center of the 2" noodle ) the rods stay snug in place and sliding the noodle secton apart makes it easy to remove the rods for use . the rods are out of harms way and don't get broken . the noodle also keeps your rods from bouncing around while driving .

Hey there lonehunter,

If I didn't have a pickup, I'd be settin' that up right now. I was at our 99 cent store and found some flag holders that were the ones where you can adjust the pole to different set angles and then tighten a wingnut to secure in that position. I bought 4 to start a new utility rack for my float tube.

I'm going to make it so that when I'm fly fishing, I can set the holders for my net, rods, etc. at 30 degrees so my back cast will be clearer and I can go under trees and other obstruction better.

did yours come with a screw in the tube part to secure the flag shaft in it ? if so an old plastic pill bottle of the same size can be cut to remove the bottom and top of the container , slit the side and insert in the flag holder . that way you can tighten the screw to keep things secure without damage .

Hey there lonehunter,

Too late for that idea. I have small 10" bungie cords on my net, caution flag, gaff, and running light pole and I've already drilled the holes in the holders for the bungie cord anchor mount.

Both the rods I use can be put in two seperate rod holders so no sweat there. Looks good and doesn't add much weight.

Thanks for the suggestions,

this poped into my head a few days ago and resurfaced again today , for your pick-up , velcro loops ! hardley noticible and will keep them in place ! just loosen the headliner screws and put a small wooden dowl in the center of the loop , tuck it in and secure the screws . it won't pull out !

Hi there lonehunter,

Thank you for the usual good suggestion. It sounds like a good idea and I'll give it a try. I plan to keep this truck for at least 10 years so I figure that by the time I'm ready to get a pure fishing vehicle, it's resale value will not be affected by a few minor alterations.

On another note, I was reminded that I have some of this insulation that comes from a spray can. You spray it and it comes out as a foam, you can form it a little, then it hardens and floats like super! Interesting stuff. Also, did you hear about that new type of spray paint put out by Krylon? It will bond with any kind of plastic on a molecular level. I guess you can paint PVC and ABS stuff. Give ya any ideas? ha ha

yea , i use the spray foam insulation to repair the 3-d archery targets i have .

i had a boat trailer tire shread and blow out on me about 130 miles from home and no spare ( hauling a light alum. boat ) i filled the tire thru the hole with the foam and duct taped the hole shut , waited about a half hour and went the rest of the way home without any trouble ( love the way that stuff expands as it cures ). at 11:00p.m. leaving the boat with all my gear would have been a nightmare .

the paint ? first idea was light weight p.v.c. lures from the scrap collection , i wonder if it will work ? coustom paint jobs on the rod holders too ! oh the gears are turning once again ! thanks ron !
