Stoneflies starting up
#1
Today and yesterday I have seen adult black stoneflies and yellow sallies on 2 different streams. I see someone else has been seeing salmonflies on Blacksmith's Fork as well. Yesterday I biked and hike up City Creek past the end of the road. I brought my 5 ft rod to cast in all that brush up there. Saw just a couple blackstones. Today I fished Thistle Creek. Saw millions of caddis, dozens of blackstones and a few yellow sallies. Unfortunately the fish I caught and saw in Thistle where a bit small, 12 - 14 inches, compared to what I usually find there. Still a lot of fun. Caught fish on caddis dries and nymphs as well as stonefly nymphs. Hopefully the hatch will be going shortly in some of our other waters with bigger fish.
