The swimming pool at Kanawha State Forest in Kanawha County will not open on schedule and will be closed for an indefinite period while repair options and sources of funding are considered, according to Kanawha State Forest Superintendent John Hendley.
Recent pre-opening inspection of Kanawha State Forest's swimming pool, built in the 1940s, revealed voids beneath a significant portion of the pool deck, as well as shifting and cracking of the deck surface. Voids have also been found under the children's wading pool. This damage makes the pool unsafe for use as well as being an indicator of major leaks.
In the meantime, should the closure prove lengthy or repairs prove to be impractical, state park management is requesting public comment and suggestions on possible alternative uses of the pool bathhouse, which is a sound and potentially versatile building.
Comments and suggestions can be provided to Superintendent John Hendley at 558-3500, Rt. 2, Box 285, Charleston, WV 25314
