Fished solo today, was on the water at 6 AM. Tried V-jigging white tubes at the Ladders with no success, but large groups of fish on the fish finder. Started trolling at 6:30 AM away from the ladders toward the ledge. Fish on immediately, nice size Cutt 20 in, then two others (smaller) within 15 minutes. I was using a brown gummy minnow. Slowed down a bit, so I swapped over to a bright orange needlefish. That was the ticket. Caught numerous slot Cutts. Barely was able to get the the downrigger down to 40 feet before another fish was on at one point. At 8:30 AM I was trolling on the east bank directly across from Strawberry Bay Marina when "bam" fish on. Turned out to be a 17" long 10" girth 2.6 LB Kokanee. This was a hard fighter but no tail dancing. First keeper of the day too. About ten minutes later another kokanee slightly smaller, however this one flopped off the hook ten feet from the boat. Fishing again slowed down at 9 AM. Swapped over to a white needlefish, still at 40 feet, and right back onto Cutts again, it's amazing how quickly they will turn off a color. Had one real monster that probably went 22 inches or so, but again flopped off the hook near the boat. I needed a fishing partner that could net these bigger fish. Oh well....Fished until 10:15, off the water at 10:30. All in all a great day, 14 Cutts and 2 Kokes (only one made it in the cooler). Not bad for only one rod in the water.
I used the same sling blade dodger all day, silver with an orange eye, two foot of 10 lb leader and the needlefish. Good luck fishing!
