[cool][green]We are here to help others gain a better appreciation of this great sport of fly fishing. [/green]
[green]There are several ways to tie on a dropper. What process do you use and which knots do you use. Also how often do you use a dropper & why. While we have many viewers on this board some are reluctant to ask questions they feel might be considered as stupid. To this end I try to find subjects that might be of interest to the newbie & perhaps address some of their unasked questions.[/green]

Good idea. First off, I use a dropper all the time.
Now as for attaching, I guess I use a clinch knot if I go off the bend, and then a Loop at both eyes. Or, I tie the first fly on about two feet up from end with a surgeon loop and use the 2' tag to attach the dropper (so basically the dropper is come off the eye of the first hook)
Now on stillwater, I use the "Y" connection. Take 6' to 8' of regular Flouro in the lb. I want. Fold it in half with one side being 12" to 2' shorter. Attach the loop right to my fly line and attach a larger flie (with a Surgeon's Loop) to the longer side and a small fly to the short one (with a Surgeon's loop)

...when I use a dropper I tie a perfection knot on one end of the tippet...then loop the tag end thru this loop.. and then slip the loop over the bend of the hook and pull it tight... then tie the second fly to this tippet.....
... FG.. on your "Y" connection... you attach your "tippet" directly to the fly line and not the leader??? how do you attach it... do you push the loop formed by doubling the line over thru the loop at the end of your fly line... and then slip the two tag ends of the fluouro back thru its own loop and tighten it???? then tie your flies to the tag ends???
I hope these questions make sense and dont cause confusion....

You are correct Mac. Just the loop to loop just like attaching a single leader.
A dropper is putting a second fly off the first fly, or just running multi flies. Here in Utah we can do two flies/lures at onec on one rod/pole. Other states you can run more...I think Idaho is 5.
