The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has revised the lake management plan for Sunset Lake (69-764) and drafted a new management plan for Hoodoo Lake (69-802) in northern St. Louis County.
The management plans call for changing management emphasis from fisheries to waterfowl and wild rice on Sunset Lake and formalizing management emphasis of Hoodoo Lake for waterfowl and wild rice. This change in management emphasis will involve reductions in water levels on Sunset Lake and maintain similar water levels on Hoodoo Lake in order to restore and maintain wild rice and other aquatic vegetation that was historically abundant in these lakes.
Restoration and maintenance of wild rice and other aquatic vegetation will greatly improve these lakes value to waterfowl and associated wetland wildlife.
The plans are available for review at the DNR Wildlife Office, 650 Hwy 169, Tower during normal business hours. (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday). To request a copy of the plan call 218-753-2580 ext. 221 or send an email to dena.weber@dnr.state.mn.us.
People may stop in or call (218) 753-2580 ext. 241 to discuss this plan with Wildlife Staff.
Comments are due to the area wildlife office by Oct. 1. Comments may be sent by mail or e-mail.
