Report from Rivers End Tackle
#1
UPDATED BY PAT ON FRIDAY,
September 7th, 2007
SEA LINK, LTD. IS HAVING ITS FINAL TACKLE CLEARANCE THIS WEEKEND SEE
DETAILS BELOW

STRIPED BASS- The baitfish supply is on the increase with more adult
bunker in the River over the last few days. However there hasn't been a
proportionate increase in the number of larger bass to go along with
it. There have been a few jumbos including two 50's from Long Sand Shoal
this week as well as a few big bass from Black Point. The Race and Plum
Gut are shy on both numbers and size of bass this week. Schoolies are
still popping up along the local beaches but not as good as last week,
I suspect with the southerly winds forecast for the next few days we
should see an increase in near shore activity. Peanut bunker and
silversides are still very concentrated on the near shore areas from here
through the Rhode Island coast. Follow the bait!

BLUEFISH- Its been blitz week. Blues have been hitting the peanuts
from the Connecticut River right through the Rhode Island South Shore
Beaches. Sizes have been running from 2 to 12 pounds. Early and late in the
day have been best but they were blitzing just outside the River
yesterday at the crack of noon. Its time to start watching the town beaches
at dusk. Jigging at the Race and Gut is good at times with the best bet
Pigeon Rip on the flood tide.

SNAPPERS- Its fair to good. Best spots have been at both DEP Piers,
Lieutenant River and the causeway.

FLUKE- Closed in Connecticut, open in RI and NY through September 16th.
You can catch Fluke in NY and RI but you cannot bring them into CT
waters.

BLACKFISH- Season closes tomorrow September 8th, will reopen on the
22nd.

PORGIES- Good to very good at Hatchetts, Bartletts and Cranes.

BONITO, FALSE ALBACORE - Bonito are still around but rarer. Albacore
are thickening with good concentrations from Fishers Island and east and
Montauk. Some fish are in Plum Gut and the north side of Plum Island.

BLUE CRABS- Some very excellent catches from both North and South Coves
on the River as well as the DEP Piers and Oyster River.

HOURS- Monday to Friday 5am-7pm----- Saturday 4am-6pm------Sunday 4am
-5pm
