2008 spring hunt draw is complete
#1
PHOENIX - The spring draw for 2008 hunt permit-tags for turkey, javelina, buffalo and bear has been completed by the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Anyone who applied can now visit www.azgfd.gov/draw or call (602) 942-3000 (press two and follow the prompts) to find out if they have been drawn for a hunt permit-tag.

Hunt-permit tags will be mailed out no later than Nov. 16 to applicants who were successfully drawn. The department received more than 41,000 applications for the 2008 spring draw and will issue more than 28,000 tags. Refunds for those not drawn will be mailed out by Nov. 30.
If you weren't drawn or simply forgot to apply, there's still a chance to get a spring hunt permit-tag. The department also announced that there are leftover hunt-permit tags available for javelina and turkey. More than 7,000 javelina tags and more than 150 turkey tags remain. A list of leftover hunts is available at www.azgfd.gov/draw.
These leftover tags will become available on a first-come, first-served basis by mail only. There is no online application option. Paper applications for these tags will be accepted at PO Box 52002, Phoenix, AZ 85072-2002 beginning at 8 a.m. (MST) on Nov. 19. Applicants must already possess or purchase a 2008 hunting license to apply for these tags.
Hunters are reminded that there is a winter draw for 2008 antelope and elk hunt permit-tags in early Feb. 2008. The new winter drawing process is in its second year for these hunts. The winter drawing process was added to let hunters know earlier if they have been drawn for these two popular big game animals.
Winter drawing information and regulations should be available on the Department's web site, www.azgfd.gov, by mid-Dec. 2007. The department will begin accepting paper applications only as soon as the regulations are posted. Printed copies of the regulations should be available at license dealers statewide by mid-Jan. 2008. There is no online application option for the winter draw.
Note to media: The big game draw is a lottery-style process for allocating the limited number of Arizona big game hunting permits to applicants. The department typically receives far more applications than there are available permits for the spring draw.
