loaded weapon question
#1
I know with my rifle it's the law that there is not supposed to be a bullet in the chamber while driving but what about a revolver?

If you have your ccw your ok, but if not, the hole next in line has to be empty.[Wink]

A legally unloaded gun means that there has to be two or more mechanical actions before the firearm will discharge. If you have a conceal permit then you can legally carry a firearm ready to roll. If you don't, then I would not recommend driving around with the pistol anywhere accessible by anyone in the vehicle; period.

the law says a revolver has to have the cylinder directly behind the hammer as well as the next cylinder in order to be considered unloaded... so figure out which way your cylinder spins, they dont all spin the same way, and leave those two cylinders empty and you are legally ok... AJ

Looks like I'll be going to get a ccw permit. No sense in having a gun for protection (camping, fishing, backcountry, etc. not going to the 7-eleven) if you have to keep it in the truckbox.
Thanks guys for the quick responses.

When you take the concealed permit class they will inform you of all the rules. Utah is the "HOT SPOT" for permits since it is honored in 26-28 different states I believe!!! I took the class in Feb. and sent my info into BCI and I didnt receive my permit until mid-June, so it takes a while since they only have 3 people there doing all the background checks. If you need any other info shoot me a PM. Also you can go to [url "http://bci.utah.gov/"]http://bci.utah.gov/[/url] and they should have some info for you too.

Hey Mark, I...ummm...well...is a ccw permit good for any weapon or just a handgun? Logic tells me a concealable weapon (handgun).

No kidding, it looks like they are a month behind in just processing the applications.
What is the general layout of a ccw permit class(es)? I imagine you would have to shoot the gun you plan to carry but I can't imagine it would be limited to that specific gun, right??? If I ever feel the need to actually carry a weapon while out and about it is going to be smaller than the one I currently have (Ruger GP100 .357 6" barrel). The holster alone is quite...what's the word...huge [blush].
Like I said before, the reason for wanting a loaded weapon is in the backcountry, no need for concealment.

That is another reason the Utah permit is so in demand right now is 1)It is good in 32 states and 2)you dont have to shoot. The class is only around 3 hours long and half of that was the instructor trying to sell some of his products!!!

I had my permit in hand in 2 1/2 weeks. If it takes any longer than 1 month, there is something on your record they are looking at.(Straight from the bci's mouth).[Wink] Just get it, you won't be sorry, plus it is going to get very hard after the first of next year to get.
