[#808000]Wyoming already does SM. The only stipulation is you can not cock the crossbow by mechanical means, it has to be done by hand.[/#808000]

[#808000]No it's not just you their site is very hard to find anything. I was looking for this exact thing for a friend earlier in the week and couldn't find it either. But here is the Archery Regulation out of my Elk Hunting Proclomation from 2007.[/#808000]

Archery licences; Special seasons; Prohibition against Firearms; Equipment.

Bow and arrow or crossbows are permissible equipment to take game animals. No person shall hunt big game or trophy game animals with a bow and arrow or crossbow during a special archery hunting season without first obtaining an archery license and the appropriate hunting license. No person holding and archery license shall take big game or trophy game animals during a special archery hunting season or diring a limited quota archery season by the use of any type of firearm.

When hunting antelope, bighorn sheep, bloack bear, deer, mountain goat or mountain lion the long bow or compound bow hunter must be equiped with a bow of not less than forty pounds draw weight or possessing the ability to cast a hunting arrow for four hundred grain weight at least one hundred sixty yards. When hunting elk or moose the longbow or compound bow hunter must be equipped with a longbow of not less than fifty pounds draw weight or possessing the ability to cast a hunting arrow of five hundred grain weight at least one hundred sixty yards.

The crossbow hunter must be equipped with a crossbow of not less than ninety pounds draw weight which has a minimum draw length of fourteen inches from front of bow to back of string in the cocked position, and a positive safety mechanism. Crossbow bolts must be at least sixteen inches long. Crossbows are not allowed to be cocked by use of a Leverage Gaining Device. A hunter who has a physical handicap or impairment rendering the individual incapable of manually cocking a crossbow shall be allowed to use a leverage gaining device to cock a crossbow while hunting wildlife after receiving from the Department a free permit to use a leverage gaining device.

The broadhead of arrows or bolts shall be of sharp steel with a minimum cutting width of one inch.

It could have changed, like I said, I couldn't find it in the hunting guide. A couple of years back a friend told me he helped a guy that is handicapped and was using a crossbow get up to a tree stand. He said the guy needed a special permit to use it. I can call the local DWR and find out if it would help, let me know?

I think your right Curt. Only persons confined to a wheelchair can use them with a special permit. It may have changed though.

Here is a link to the reg. it is at the bottom of the page under Hunting Regulations. The search actually works on the DWR web site, I was surprised, even though it took me to a Google search engine.

I know several people that can't pull a bow back and now use a crossbow. I do believe they had to get a doctor to fill out some paper work from the DWR. Most of them have blown shoulders limiting there range of movement.

Maybe that blown knee will allow you to use ATV's during the hunt when they get banned for everybody else.

They already do, the same guy I mentioned above was able to give his handicapped friend a ride to his tree stand using a ATV. No side trips, just straight to the stand drop him off then leave on the same path he came in on. Then he went back at the end of the day to pick him up. They did have two way radios in case of an emergency.

Didn't you score a whitetail with your crossbow a few years back? I'd like to try this one day.

yes, my bro owns some land in virginia, and we were hunting on national forest land, we hiked the appalachian trail to get to our spot . . i got a small buck

they have a fair amt of deer there, a non-res pays about $200, and you can take 3 antlered, 3 does ...

then you can buy tags for $2 each to take more deer, but the meat goes to the food banks . .

Wiper you must be referring to Uintah's.

I'm talking about when they put a season on Atv's. Considering the problems they are causing it's only a matter of time.

No, I don't think he was in the Uintahs, I think he was on private land somewhere in central Utah.
A season on ATV's? How could they or why would they do that? Just because a few people don't follow the rules doesn't mean they will put a season on ATVs. That would be like stopping people from hunting because there are poachers out there. But an ATV season, how do you think that would work?

[#808000]There is a strong movement right now to get all ATV's banned from anything but improved roads that all vehicles can travel on Federal lands like National Forests and BLM. Hopefully something like this does not pass but only time will tell.[/#808000]
