Chesterfield 1/26/08
#1
Fished Chesterfield today. I was pleasantly surprised to find the fishing hasn't slowed down like it typically does when the ice has covered a lake for a couple months.

The average size of fish I'm catching has gone down though. Most of the fish I've caught were about 13" long. I did not catch any fish over 20" long and I'm fairly certain none of the fish I caught were planted in 2005.

All the jigs I tried caught fish but the glow in the dark ones did seem to be doing better than the none glow jigs. A few weeks ago the glow in the dark jigs did just as well as the none glow in the dark jigs. The fish are also biting lighter than they were a few weeks ago so the smaller ice flies/jigs resulted in more hooked fish. I didn't feel like putting my arm down the hole to measure the ice but I would guess it is about 18" thick and there is at least 10" of solid clear ice.

I did catch a few decent fish today like the one below but I only caught a handful of 16"+ fish.

Here are the three fish we decided to keep. I measured the smallest at 10" and the other two are around 13" long.

Man, too many places to fish too little time. I have only made it out ice fishing 10 days this year due to my wrestling schedule.[cool]

Great report. I hope to have a digital camera in a couple of weeks and then I will learn how to improve my reports with the pics.

Great report Brian. I sure hope it gets back to the way it used to be there where you could catch big cutts, browns and bows up to 10 + #s but that was the good ol days!!! M.H.

Brian.

Great report; you have put your dues in when in comes to Chesterfield. Thought about hitting it yesterday, but had fished hard for the past two days, so Lava sounded better. If Ririe stays good I think my traveling days are over except of course PaliSades[Smile]

Didn't you know that is the only type of trout in Idaho[Wink]. Just ask Everet. Idaho only has small planted trout.[Wink]

The Sad truth is that there are very few wild trout in any of the Reservoirs in the SE region. The F&G know most of the reservoirs have little or no natural reproduction so they stock them heavy with planters.
