Fishing is good down near the dam. Lot's of trout. The Snake arm is also kicking out trout as well, trolling is the ticket. Just cover a lot of water, and fish early and late. It is better on cloudy days.

Mojo,
Thanks so much for the info. I have been reluctant to drag the boat over from Boise, after last year when I got deicer splashed on it--it is aluminum--and scarred it up permanently. With this break in the weather, though, I just might switch from bank fishing to trolling. Thanks again, friend. Mike

Have you been up by Cove Arm? A couple friends of mine were thinking of heading over there one of these weekends and I said I would ask if it is iced up and if not if anyone has had any success on the river side of Cove Arm.

Michael,
I would not think too many people have travelled down that grade with the recent weather. I do know that they have been ice fishing in the Bruneau arm for perch in the Cottonwood area, but the Statesman carried a warning today regardilng the warmer temps and deteriorating ice. Mike

Cove Arm was partially iced over last Saturday, as was Crane Falls. Partially. The road down was also drifted in in several spots. I'd say your best bet would be fishing out of a boat.

The ice on the Bruneau arm is 2 to 3 inces thich, and getting spongy. My buddy Jim tried to fish it the other day and waved off after he drilled 1 hole. You can still fish in the boat basin for the small bluegills and some trout.

I ran my boat to the area I wanted to ice fish on Saturday. Guess that's out. I did manage some pig bass, and a dozen nice perch, plus 5 bonus crappies. Fish are there, they just take some looking.

My wife and I fished it this A.M. and had one of those days we have all experienced before: we sat there and watched the guys next to us land lots of nice 'bows. The most we could muster was two strikes. Oh, well! The freeway was something though. We saw tons of elk, lots of deer, and more antelope than you could count just outside of Boise. Fish and Game estimates more than 1000 elk along the freeway between Boise and Mountain Home. Mike
