Thanks for the Report. I think I'll give her a try again! How was the ice/edges? Has the warm weather done anything to it? It was over a foot thick last time I went but that was a few weeks ago.

Great Report! That sounds like a blast i love finding huge pots of Koke's like that its one of the only fish you can really get into like that! I'd love to make a trip there after those Kokes... can you catch them on most trips pretty consistently or are they really hit or miss?

I will be there tonight and tomorrow camping out. I do love Ririe it is one of the most consistent Koke fisheries I have ever seen. If you are going for Kokes be prepared to either hunt them down like Ovid Creek did or wait them out. They will come around eventually.
I personally like to set up off of a rocky point. The trout ususally cruise the shore line so I set up a couple of poles near the bottom in 10-15 ft. Then I find the perch in deeper water on the bottom with another pole. I usually set up a couple of poles suspended 10-15' down for the kokes, but this year huge schools have been swimming along the bottom for some reason. Anyway by setting up different zones I rarely have much of down time in the fishing. Ririe is one of the rare places that you can set up like that and be successful.

Windriver,
I beleive I saw you at your famous point; I was a mile a way by the tower Friday Night. Slowest day at Ririe for me only caught two kokes and one perch in 1.5 hours of fishing. Lots of perch on the bottom they were just not that hungry. Hope you did well.
Iliketofish,
Ice edges were still pretty good near the dam, although a little slush effect is begining to occur.

Thanks,
I went today for about three hours. I ended up catching 20 kokes. Thanks for the heads up that it was still good!

Yes, that was me along with four scouts and another leader camping out on "Windriver" point.[cool] We got there about 40 minutes later than I had intended so we ended up hiking out to the place in the dark. The moon was bright so it was not to hard to get set up.
We only caught one trout in the dark. The night was uneventful other than the neighbor hood dogs barking all night. The coyotes chimed in at about 5:30AM and was joined by an owl at 6:00. Needless to say I did not need an alarm clock to get up and get going. I had all my holes drilled and poles set up by 6:30.
The trout bite came on strong at 7:00. We were pulling them in as fast as we could set the hook for about a 1/2 hour. Most of the boys were still in bed when the bite slowed. Then I concentrated on finding perch for lunch. I found the perch in 40' of water there were literally hundereds of them on the aqua-view, but most of them swam right on by my offerings. Later in the day we did have the kokes come through and we caught 20 or so all together.
Total fish count for the day (including released fish) 15 trout, 25 perch, 20 Kokanee. It isn't often that a plan comes together the way you imagine it, but I was glad those boys saw a good day of ice fishing and had a good experience.
I filleted the perch and we had them for lunch. I also grilled a couple of trout for them. There is nothing better than fresh fish straight from the water to the grill.

tmas,
I would certainly get up there and give it a shot. In my opinion it has been the best koke and all around fishing in my eleven years living in the area.
Windriver,
Glad you got into the fish; I have been tempted to go after some catch and release trout fishing this year, but as you know the kokes have been quite entertaining. Went back Sunday morning with my son and had a blast. Arived around 6:30 am, and my son iced a perch then it was dead for about an 1.5 hours with only a couple of kokes. Around 9:00 am everything caught on fire perch, kokes, and even a trout. We stayed till about Noon and iced 25 kokes, 7 perch, and the lone trout. Although my son and I caught kokes at all depths the most aggresive kokes tended to be in 45-55 feet of water. This is two weekends in a row that I have done well in my present location, and the amount of fish on the Vexilar has been impressive. Met some good people on the ice today, and all of s did well.
Hope all did well!

There are some decent trout in there. The 14"ers are starving and have large heads and skinny bodies. For some reason the 16" are fat and healthy. They are cruising the points in 20' of morning and most active in the first two hours of light.

I went to Ririe today from 12:30 to 3:30 and only caught one perch. I went south of the boat ramp to the big point where there had been lots of kokes. I talked to two groups of guys fishing by the rock pile and they hadn't caught anything all day, and they hadn't seen anybody else catch any. I was hoping to catch some more delicious kokes through the ice but I guese I'll have to wait until next year.

Welcome to the board maghunter. There are still plenty of Kokes out there and they are still biting. It think the school by the boat ramp has been displaced or thinned out. The perch have slowed down. I am not a perch expert, but I think they may be ready to spawn. I looked at the bottom with the aqua-view and there are still hundereds of them in my normal holes, just not biting.
Good Luck

Well a couple of guys from work went to Ririe on Sunday and said it was real slow all morning so they moved closer to the shore and got into a huge school of kokes and lost count of how many they caught. So with a report like that I've got the fishing bug and took tomorow off to give it one last try this winter.

Well four of us went up to Ririe on Friday we got there about 1 pm and fished until 6 pm, we had 18 holes between the four of us spread out for about 40 yards and at all different depths with all different jig and bait combos, and we only caught three fish, one little perch, one starving cutthroat, and one big fat sucker. And the wierd thing is we caught all three of those fish on the same pole, it only had an old eagle claw hook couple of sinkers and some worm on it. So much for spending hundreds of dollars on tackle all you need is a good old eagle claw and some garden tackle. It was really sunny that day and I don't know if that kept the kokanee from biting or what. We talked to several other groups of people and they all had about the same luck as we did. The best days of fishing I've had up there this winter have been on cloudy snowy days, but I am no expert.
