The Great Hunter (my sticker says so)
#1
I was talking to a guy at Wally World the other day about fishing, he asked some question because I was looking around at the tackle. I tried to help him out as much as I could with what was available. Started talking hunting etc., he drew out for a central tag, this is his fourth year hunting with one two-point under the belt. He waved to me as he drove past me in the parking lot and I noticed that he had some big white stickers on his back window. One was something like 'if it's brown it's down' plus a couple others that I just looked at the pic not the writing. Oh! One of them said 'Head Hunter' and had a pic of a freaky antler deer.
Since then almost everywhere I look there is a truck with some kind hunting decal on it. It makes me wonder how many of these people are just wishful thinking. I'm not the great white hunter, I like hunting but I'm a meat hunter. You can't eat antlers. I understand wanting the biggest and the best, I'm a fisherman, but I put mine back to live another day. Just rambling....

I think you summed it up pretty good John. Wishful thinking. Yes, I to would like to harvest a boone and Crocket animal. However its not just all about that. Its getting together with Friends and family, going into the mountains or desert, which ever you prefer, and enjoying this great country that God created for us. If I get an animal, well.............. thats a bonus. But i think most of these guys wish they could shoot that nice of an animal. Hell, who wouldn't. I just have to wait my turn on the draw and when the time comes, hope that I am physically able to get into the hills to get him! BTW, We doin late elk tags with Chad this year?

My favorite is when those guys put the big elk and deer stickers on thier little Hatchback cars. That always give me a good laugh[sly]
What are they going to do? Strap an elk on top of the car???

I don't quite understand all the hype over the decals either. I think that with all the dvd's and hunting videos out now the obsession with taking a big animal is on most hunters minds. Plus when in Utah most people have waited a long time to draw a L.E. tag and when they get it and shoot a 180+ buck or a 350+ elk they are proud of it, but it's more the tag than the hunter. I like hearing stories of great bucks and bulls off public land in general units that a person has watched or done their homework on better than one off a L.E. unit. I'm not knocking people with decals but I also know quite a few that have not taken much in the ranks of bragging rights. We all have our obsessions though. I know I do.
