Jordanelle - Where amazing things happen!!
#1
Decided to check out the Rock Cliff area of Jordanelle after work today. Got there with a slight breeze just barely causing a ripple on the water and I thought to myself, "It's going to be a good day". I started unloading my car, unzipped my equipment bag and discovered that I had left the pump at home. So much for the good day theory. So with lung power, I was able to inflate the Fat Cat into a somewhat acceptable pressure and off I went. Picked up five smallies on the way to a previous hotspot. Tied on a 5" Yum Dinger and wham! An 18" largemouth. I think the day is starting to get a little better. Started fan-casting around the area and discovered a honeyhole, worked this area until my arms and lipping thumb is sore. Dropshotting and T-rigging (due to the snaggy area) worked well today.

What was incredible is the size of the smallies I was catching. At one point, I said to myself, "Man, another big one?" I never thought I would say that, especially when it comes to smallie fishing. All in all, probably one of my best days in Jordanelle when it comes to smallies.

Enjoy the pics! Sorry for the pix quality, only had the camera phone with me today.

P.S. I caught my first softwater perch of the year today, a chunky 10".

Hey, I was supposed to be there with you tonight[mad][mad][mad][Wink].

Sounds fantastic though. Days like that will always be remembered. Hopefully, there will be a few there tomorrow. I don't suppose you are up for a trip next week?

The smallies missed you yesterday! A trip next week sounds doable. Maybe we can get more BFT'ers to come along.

Recognize any of these from Thursday?

It was quite good today (for me and a flotilla of bass boats) but not as stellar as what you had on your trip. The perch have now arrived in some numbers.

The first picture looks familar [Wink]. Glad you got into some fish. I think the planets lined up for me Thursday or the fishing gods took pity on me for forgetting the pump. My one theory about some of the areas where I caught the lunkers is that the perchlets were there and they were gorging up on them. The one perch that I caught were at the same area that I caught some of the biggest ones.

Good job on those smallies!

All of the pictured fish and most of my total catch yesterday were caught on either a Yamamoto senko or a Maniac brand stickbait, wacky rigged. The hooks are a 1/0 Gamakatsu octopus hook, in red, which is my preferred "wacky" rigging hook. We also use a fair bit Texas rigged worms and drop shotting at Jordanelle, as Kastmaster explained.

I tried some dropshotting yesterday, but it wasn't effective at the time. I guess I didn't have any "Mojo" with it.[Wink]

[cool][#0000ff]You seem to have them dialed in pretty good too. It has been a good year on Lake X so far.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Those smallies from shallower waters sure have purty coloration.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Glad to hear the perch have moved in. Looks like a Thursday morning expedition for us.[/#0000ff]
