Wierd Situation
#1
So I live in a small town in Iowa, and I live next door to this Pond. The pond has a small plastic/pvc dock, and it is currently underwater. That dock is usually the hot spot for me, and is now unaccessable. The pond is actually pretty big for our area, but about 75% of it is just stagnant water and is slathered in duck grass and moss and alge and all other sorts of stuff. On top of it only this one spot, about 12 feet in diameter has any current. I know for a fact that there are nice bass in there and that there are even some Bullheads. What should I do to nearly garuntee I get something? Or should I just give up on that spot? I can take pictures if you want. Smile

Rig a topwater frog weedless and throw it out past the spot you want to fish and small twitches on the rod till you get it back to you and throw it out again... keep doing this and you will attract attention from the bass in the hole... thats what I would do..... I would also do this on the whole pond... Bass will hide just below the weeds and they will see the frog coming by them and bust up thru the weeds to get at it.... Early morning just at daylight best and evening just before dark.... I would use at least 30 lb braid spyderwire or gorilla braid... have fun.... let me know if this works for you....

The weedless frog is a good idea.

In addition, I would pitch out a 5in Senko hooked weedless and just let it drop slowly.[cool]

Thanks for all the feedback! I was, in fact, trying my weedless frog and a guy I met there was using some sorta mouse. I now know that its all about "How" you use your bait! lol. Where can I get 30lb line? I've actually never seen it around here. The highest I've seen is 10 or 12, I know...sheltered....Thanks again!

You could probably order some from Cabelas or go to Wallys world.

What do you need the 30lb line for??

The majority of my Bass are on 6lb test unless I have to bring it in fast then I will use 12 or 14lb. In local tournaments I will use 15 and 17lb test but only if I'm throwing heavier artillary.[cool]

6lb. test? I know there's big greenies in Cali, I was surprised to hear that.
30# test is hardcore, I imagine 12# would be fine unless your pulling in more moss than fish when you catch one. I used 25# spiderwire in some nasty stuff in the Delta but there was just as much moss as there was bass on the hook.
The way I look at it, depending on water conditions, is if I can clearly see my line then so can a fish. BUT, I lost the largest smallmouth of my life today fishing with 10# Suffix. Had I had heavier line would he have even taken it? Who knows, all I know is that my line broke [frown]. Sorry, I'm rambling.

Blah blah blah LOL[laugh]

Certain conditions as you said will warrant the need for bigger string or braided line.

I just try to keep the line as small as possible.[cool]

Lol well thanks for the argument, it helped me. Now that I know there are 3 brands that are "the best" I'll put all that to good use. [laugh] I'm going to try the 8 or 10lb Spiderwire first becuase its cheap and everyone is saying its decent. I want to try the Firewire, but I'm not sure becuase Wally World only has "Smoke." Unless that's what I need. I'm not gonna use Trilene anymore, I've had enough trouble with it.

There are several different braids to consider.

Power Pro, Spider Wire, Spectra, Stren Braided, Trilene Braided, Trilene Fireline Crystal, Cajun Braided, as well as other minor companies.

You will find that you might like one better than the other. It will boil down to your opinion.

I like the Power Pro where on the other hand, the Fireline Crystal is crap in my opinion.[cool]
