What types of fly patterns do you use on the carp? I am in Southwest Idaho here and know of several rivers and ponds with healthy carp populations and thought I would give it a whirl one of these nights, but have no idea where to start fly wise.
Thanks in advance!

All I can tell you is I have had lick with the following flies:
Bead Head Prince Nymph
Haresear (with and without rubber legs)
A nymph pattern to imitate Dragon Flies
And a fly called the Popcorn Ball which is a Glow Bug in yellow with a white hackle collar.
Also small crawfish patterns.
I hear woolly buggers work also.

My favorite fly for lakes and such is a clouser swimming nymph. It works really well. Any nymph really, small crystal buggers.
The most important thing is getting the fly in front of them and at their level, once you do that I have found they will hit almost anything.
