how critical is this. i have seen jon boats that were way overloaded, and it really isnt an issue except for the law if a person was to get check. is this the same with tubes? i wanted to get into this as a cheap way of getting off the bank, but most of the cheaper tubes have a low weight rating. btw, im 380 lbs. i like the water skeeter day tripper also, but i couldnt find a price for it, and im sure it is would be atleast $300 or better. i also like the toons, but right now they are out of my price range.eventually, i would like to set up a toon like some of the ones that the bnt guys out in cali have. hope someone can give me some good info. thanks

i would ASSUME that unless your floating a river in a toon, or on a lake that has the distinct pleasure of being vistd by heavy winds and big chop, that as long as it floats you safely at least 6 to 12 inches above the water you should be just fine. when i floated the green river on my toon i was pushing 260, plus i loaded it down with a case of beer, food to feed a family of three, and all of my gear. i was probably pushing well over 310lbs, and i shot class I and II rapids, and did just fine. i would not however run it through a class III, and when ever i thought things were getting hairy i would paddle over to shore and walk it the rest of the way down.

Welcome aboard stew6371 and thanks for your participation here.
The manufacturers are giving their products a lower rating in an effort to help with warranty issues and as a marketing scheme to get people to buy a bigger tube.
I have one of the Skeeter day trippers. It is rated for 300lbs. Quite a bit more than what I weigh. I can't see getting it for $300 dollars though. I did get mine at a trade show and it ended up costing me about the same as an FC4 which was in the $130 to $150 range at the time.
I do use mine in still water at times but prefer it for the Saltwater. It should be alright for your weight class.
Just keep an eye on the "Wind" class with it. I don't seem to have a problem with it for summer fishing in the ocean. The wind always blow me to the shore with the incoming tide in the afternoon. That is about as safe as I can plan it.[cool]
