makin my own lure
#1
i was thinking about making my own lures with theese.
there suposed to be squishy. I figure i can boil them up in some fish atractant and bag them. anyone think they will work well for freshwater fishin?
I could run a synthetic worm hook thru them or put a treble hook thru the center of them and dangle a small spoon on the back of the insects.

[#008000][Image: happy.gif]Hey there outlawed - now if you could tie flies that looked like those bugs then I would say you are in business. I would gather that placing the hook in the right position so that your lure would retrieve in a life like manner would be the most difficult feat that you would have to over come. If I was trying this task I would test the lure out in my pool, repositioning the hook until I found the correct setup. Don't have a pool, well any small body of water will do just fine. You wouldn't have to cast it out maybe just 10' or so that you can watch the action close up. What material are these insects made from? Boiling might compromise the integrity of material. i.e. It may fall apart during boiling or weaken it's structure and break easily if a fish strikes while missing the hook. I wouldn't consider adding a spoon at this time for that would make the rear end too heavy. Good luck - for nothing ventured is nothing gained. [/#008000]

What I am planing to do is make lures simular to the picturs listed below. The material is suposed to be soft and strechy. I can always test one to see how it responds to heated water to treat them with scent.
I'm not realy a fly fisherman type, I'm just goin after panfish, catfish and greentrout.

Seems like they will work as long as you present them correctly. Best of luck to you.
