Hello all.
My husband and I are planning a trip to ID, Yellowstone, and Glacier NP next August. I want to make this trip amazing for him since he has never been anywhere except our honeymoon, and I got to pick where we went!
I am looking for any info regarding the BEST place to go for fishing in Idaho. I would like to stay in eastern ID, but if the best fishing is in the west, west we will go! He fly-fishes but also mentioned trying to fish for salmon. We are going low budget, camping and such, so guided trips are out.
Thanks so much for any information!

Wow finding the "Best" fishing in Idaho is like asking a religious question. Good Luck with that.[cool]
How much time do you want to devote to this place? The reason I ask is that you are trying to see Idaho, Glacier, and Yellowstone in one trip.
I have lived here all my life and I am still exploring the greater Yellowstone region. I fished three or four new places in yellowstone this summer alone.
In August I would concentrate on either high mountain lakes and streams or the bigger rivers with enough oxegyn to keep the fish active at that time of year.
You might camp in Island Park and fish the Box Canyon section of the Henry's Fork. Further South the South Fork of the Snake can be excellent.
You could try the Madison River near the park in Montana.
I guess we need more infomation to be really helpful. Are you looking for the best scenery, the most fish, big fish etc...?
Thanks

There are plenty of good fishing spots in eastern ID and especially in the greater Yellowstone area. As for Salmon fishing I would have a hard time suggesting you do it in Idaho. Washington or Oregon would be better bets. But you can still catch plenty of fish around here. The Henry's fork of the Snake, the South Fork, Henry's lake, Hebgen Lake, the Madison River and many many more. Like he said, a little more specific detail on type of fishing you want to do would help. Boat or wade? River or Lake? Small in big numbers or large in smaller numbers? The thread requesting information for a trip by Missouri Mark has several good suggestions. As for Glacier area, just take a camera. The scenery is so spectacular I barely even thought about fishing when I was there a few years ago. I'll post a couple pics from there so you have a small idea of what I mean.

Thanks guys for your info and those pics from Galcier are amazing!
We will probaly only have 2 full days to fish. I did take a look at Missouri Mark's posts since we are also from Missouri. The only trout fishing that my husband does is about 2 hours away at a stream by a hatchery. I think we will be river or stream fishing and wading, not using a boat. I think he would be happy if the fish were big or small as long as he catches a few! It would be great if we could camp close to or on the river where he could fish. Scenery would be a bonus too, but we'll get lots at Glacier.
You guys are great and I appreciate your help! I'm going to get my husband to start reading these boards so he'll know what to expect and what bait to use!

What part of Missouri are you from? I am from Ste. Genevieve County. Looks like we will be visiting about the same time.

Another question; We like to float the Ozark Rivers in Missouri and we are interested in floating on our trip, BUT we are not great thrill searchers. We could handle Class I and II. Suggestions??

I agree, Glacier N.P. area streams as a rule aren't highly productive. Not to say you can't find some fish but the fishing is much better a bit further south.
