Gem Lake Ice Report!!!!

Went out to gem lake today down at the damn with a buddy of mine to check the ice and mabey wet a line. on the drive their we saw that the entire gem lake section of the river is frozen from up above the sunnyside overpass clear down to the damn. got their and there was alot of fresh snow on the ice so at first it was a little bit scary we walked out about four feet and busted out the auger. its sitting at about 4.5 to 5 inches of ice off the boat dock so it was pretty safe we fished for about a half an hour had three bites but never got a hookup. well there ya go figured someone could use the update. Thanks for the report--I want to try Gem Lake sooner than latter through the ice.

Never even heard of Gem lake.... Where is it?

It's really just more of a wide slow area of the Snake River South of Idaho Falls. The reason they call it a lake is there is a dam on the southern end. It's south of I.F. and just north of Shelly. If you take the exit off I-15 at Dad's truck stop it will take you across the river (actually mid gem lake). There are boat ramps on the south and north ends of it.

Went out again today for about two hours we showed up a bit late. missed a few fish gonna have to move to half mealies or maggots they keep cleaning me out. it was cold as all heck this afternoon had to skim our holes every 15 minutes but it was a fun trip no fish to show there was a group of gentlemen about 30 yards up from us that got into some fish one nice one that looked to be about 4lb. oh and the ice has grown to about 5 inches 5.5 in spots it will only get better by the weekend its suppose to be cold cold cold.
