Rigby/Roberts/Chesterfield/Alexander Report
#1
Sat. spent the morning fishing Rigby with Steelfisher and my family. We did pretty well at first light in the deepest water we could find. The fishing died off after 9:00 as often happens.

In the afternoon we went to Roberts perch fishing again slayed the small perch with small ice flies. Is there no end to the small perch in Roberts?

Monday fished Chesterfield from 7:30-12:00. We landed 13 beautiful rainbows. Most of them were 15-16" but we got a couple in the 18" range. Green paddle bugs tipped with night crawler seemed to do the ticket. There was a feeding frenzy at 8:50 when we landed eight in about 15 minutes then it slowed down again.

After lunch in Soda Springs we hit Alexander. I had never been there before so it was all guess work. We fished a ton of different holes and managed to bring in 30 perch but all of them were 6-7". We did not find any of the big ones.

Monday evening we stayed in Lava for some swimming and hot water fun. The kids had a great time. We were planning on fishing Deep Creek on Tuesday but some family things came up so we went back to Chesterfield for two hours on Tuesday morning as we had to make a quick exit to Rexburg by noon.

Tuesday we had a terrible time landing the fish. We got plenty of hits but they did not give us much of a chance. One bang and they were gone. My son landed the biggest fish of the trip at 22". It was amazing how many hits we got that we could just not land.

All in all it was a wonderful few days of ice fishing.

Here are a few pics.

Thats great you got into some fish and even better when the young guns out fish the old man [Wink] Couple questions for ya, did they plow the road up to chesterfield dam? how was getting on the ice with snow/slush conditions? Wanted to head up there for a new years night fish but dont ant to waste the drive if you cant get to the lake. Any info on road conditions up from lava will help. Thanks again in advance!!

As of today no problem with the road conditions. The road was plowed to the dam and the parking lot. There was very little snow on the road and only a little ice here and there.

The lake itself had no slush and only a couple of inches of snow. It was easy walking overall.

Good Luck

Pray, tell a neophyte ice angler what a green paddle bug is. A picture would be even better. In fact, why don't you tell me AAAALLLL your secrets?[Wink]

Paddle bugs come in an assortment of colors I use the white and chartruse the most. You can buy them already rigged with the jig head in packs of five at Walmart or Sportsmans they only cost $1.69 for the five pack.

The downfall is the hook quality is not very good so you can go through a lot of them on big fish.

Don't forget to purchase the pink pack as well; they are a god send on Deep and PaliSades. In my fishing marathon at Deep I went through about four in the feeding frenzy. Best cheap product on planet earth!
