This is not a new technique by any means. Western fisherman have been using a jig worm for years, decades. It has been getting a great deal of attention because several of the big eastern pros are using it and promoting it. Don Ivino, Greg Hines, Bobby Garland and a bunch of others were doing this back in the late 70's. One thing different is that we now have tungsten heads which have smaller/weight ratio's, which allows you to use heavier heads in certain conditions. Flurocarbon line helps the smaller jig sink better and transmits the bite better. Some of these guys were and are great innovators, but because they lived out here, never got the notoriety of a Clunn, VanDam, etc.
By the way, the stinger idea, already out there, called a Westy Worm. been used in Arizona, Nevada, and Cali for years.
