With lower water levels here in Michigan , beach front property owners have had to deal with lake debris in front of there homes . Rotting lake weeds and various wood and floating trash has washed up on the now exposed lake bottom beyond threr property bounderys . Under current Michigan law , it is illeagle to clear this debris .
Beach front resort and property owners may be one step
closer to eliminating what they feel is an unsightly problem that could
lower property values and turn away businesses.
Today the Michigan state senate unanimously approved a bill to ease beach grooming regulations.
The new regulations would allow beach front property owners on Grand
Traverse and Saginaw Bays to mechanically groom parts of their beaches
without a permit.
The bill now needs approval from the state house and the governor.
My view on the issue is that a permit is not all that expencive . Second , I would hate to see exposed natural habitat being removed just because it is a temporary nucence to a person or business adjoining the area. Maybe a pathway should be cleared , but not the entire area .
