m17glock, hiwassee river /finnally got a LIMIT, crappie, 2/15/09, alone
#1
even after reading polodog's report on the wolftevier crappie bite i decided to stick close to home and fish the hiwassee from the charleston ramp.

Almost had to run down to B&B instead .... even with the improvements to the charleston ramp it was very tricky
to get the bullet in and out of the water emoBang wolftiever would have been much easier ...

anyway i went down to the B&B bluffs to start but it was to crowded there so i went back up to north mouse area
to try a spot there. that worked out pretty good as i got all but 2 of my keepers from that spot.

i keyed on LARGE trees in the water close to the channel (15 fow ) there was a little current and tossing upstream
letting drift down on a 5-6 count was the ticket emoParty . now it wasnt fast and furious action but pretty steady.

probably had about as many throw backs as i did keepers with all of the keepers coming on a 1/32 oz and a smoke tube jig with red/blue/silver glitter.

the keeper bite was VERY subtle on a slow almost deadstick retrieve but the shorties were thumping it pretty hard.
put in at about 8:30 and left the water about 2pm with 15 solid keepers the biggest being a 13" white .
water temp was around 45-46 f .

once what little flow there was stopped so did the bite .

a little on the chilly side to running down the river but a great day to be out on it anyway emoSmile

oops sorry no pics should have taken some but didnt .
