Here's the monster Northern Jake caught off Trout lake, St. Louis county, MN. 44" 24 lbs, caught on a tip up through a seven inch hole with an 8lb test leader, last weekend. Now he's only a few inches and pounds short of my record... []

Nice fish. I assume your talking about the trout lake that you have to portage off of vermillion to get to. That lake actually contains alot of huge northern, walleye, and bass. I've never fished it in the winter but I have caught plenty of hogs out of there in the summer. If you live in the Eveleth/Virginia area there's a chance I know you.
