Ririe still producing and good ice
#1
Last Saturday the fishing on Ririe was very good for kokanee and those fishing close to the rocks got trout.

Perch seemed to have their mouths welded shut as I did not catch any, but had four groups of kokanee come through it two hours. Once again we were fishing away from the crowds as I seem to do better where there is less noise on the ice.

Four-wheelers and foot traffic had no problem getting on or off the ice. Be a little careful around the ramp if the weather stays warm.

The kokanee were about 20 to 30 feet under the ice with a lot of light hits.

Thanks for the report.

People should not give up on Ririe unless the ice becomes unsafe. One of my favorite things to see is that huge muddy waterfall that comes over the canyon wall across from the boat ramp.

Has the water fall started yet?

Thanks for the report redleech. My dad and I are talking about another trip to Ririe on Wednesday. Last Wednesday's trip was a bust with only three bites between the two of us which yielded one 7" perch. We fished until 4:30 when we left the ice. Not much anyone else catching anything either. Saw plenty of fish on the fish finder but they seemed to have lockjaw. [frown] I think it was the strong weather pattern blowing through and big barometric pressure change that put the fish off their bite.
Weather had settled down by Thursday evening.

I was busy this weekend and couldn't get out on the ice [frown]. Some buddies of mine went Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and had their limit by 8:30 every morning. They always fish right off the ramp. By the way they have a huge smoker and they smoke their fish each night. Hmmmmm.

If the ice lasts I will have to try this weekend. My nieces are dying to catch some Kokanee. They are known for bringing me bad luck, so I will have to bring along a couple dozen rabbit feet or something.

Your friend's good fortune is incouraging. I hope we get into them again. This will probably be our last trip for the winter. Thanks for the info maghunter.
I just picked up some smoked kokanee I had taken into Hopkins Meat Pack in Blackfoot. My son has already polished off one fish with crackers. I had better dive in and eat some before he has the four all gone.
