Echo Bay
#1
Launched out of Echo Bay Monday March 2. Hit the water at 0630. Went directly to Overton beach and trolled with whole anchovies. Between three of us we caught about 8 stripers in a couple hours. Thot we found the perfect spot and dropped anchor and fished with anchovies, caught 2 in 2 hours. Started trolling back towards Stewarts point caught 5 more in about 45 minutes. All were 1 to 3 lbs and fat. Weather was gorgeous. I was going to launch at Overton but NDOW didn't know if it was available and said to call Lk Mead . Call Lake Mead they told me it hasn't been useable for awhile. I saw 5 boats come out of Overton ramp. They were the same size or bigger than mine. I have a 16 ft Tracker, one fella told me it has about 3 feet of water at the ramp. So now I have had my first official fishing trip for 2009. Oh yeah beer batter bass is awesome !

Very nice report......So three feet is the max depth at the ramp? I hear the water level is going up a little. I just wished it go up 100 feet or so. I used to launch at overton and go left several miles....now its just desert.[fishin]

Great report! Sounds like an awesome day on the water.

In all the years that I have fished Lake Mead I have never fished the Overton Arm. This has got to change! Thanks for the motivation.

It was an awesome day! I used to go to Overton Marina and rent the pontoon boats about 4 yrs ago. We always seemed to have a good day. I like the area because there is hardly anyone up there. I don't mind the drive. I don't know for sure if it is three feet at the Overton ramp. The fella passing by told me that He had a boat a bit bigger than mine but he didn't have and outboard, but I can launch my 16ft tracker in 3ft. I made a point to launch from every ramp on Lake Mead when I got my boat two yrs ago. I have launched from every ramp AZ and NV side. Echo bay and South point out of Meadview AZ have always been my favorites of course the farthest two.

I read your posting and was wondering if you could provide some advice. I have been working overseas for several years and just returned to the States. I relocated to Las Vegas and have never fish Lake Mead before. I have been told by several people Echo Bay is the best place to launch for Bass and Striper fishing. I have launch from Calville Bay but the area was primarily filled with skiers. I am looking for a good area to get back into the swing of fishing, is Echo Bay a good starting Place?

Hello
Welcome to the board. Echo Bay is my personal favorite. I have found it to be successful most of the times I am there. I like Echo because usually there are not alot of people there during the week. You can rent boats from the marina if you need one. It is only about a 10 minute ride in my boat to Overton beach area where I have always been successful. Stewart's point is even closer going north. I have also went south right around the first mountain 5 minutes from dock and caught Lg mouth, small mouth bass and stripers. I have fished at 33 hole crawdad cove boulder beach areas. While I have been successful at times I have been skunked down there too. For me the drive is only about 20 more miles to Echo than Hemminway. Echo is my most favorite place on Lk Mead. On Thursday this week 2 friends and I are headed to South cove out of Meadview AZ for a couple of days. 2 years ago we caught so may stripers we were throwing them back. I have only caught 3 lg Stripers. 1 -17lb off the bank at Willow beach, 1-6 lb out of Echo bay and a 5 lb out of Temple bar. Everything else is 1-3 lbs. I did catch a 10.9 lb cat out of Echo that NDOW put in their trophy fish book this year. Though its a bummer not catching fish, its still beats working! Echo Bay gets my vote for favorite spot. The workers at the marina usually have good fishing info too. They are open to where the hot spot is and what people are using to catch.

I want to thank you for your valuable input. I am new to Mead and I had only one chance to go out last year and I launch at Calville. It was nice early morning but by about 9 am all the jet skis and ski boats were out in force. That day ended up being a skunk day. I definately don't mind driving the extra distance to get to Echo Bay, I just want to enjoy a nice day fishing. I am far from being a trophy hunter or a Pro, so hearing from you really helps me out. My brother is coming this weekend and we plan to go to Echo Bay early Saturday morning. Let me know how your group does, Good Fishin'

Never made it to South Cove winds were way to crazy. Did manage to get to Echo Bay on Monday the 6th then again 9th and 10th. We orignally were headed to Stewarts point but the winds were heavy so we hit a cove maybe two minutes north of Echo. We caught 17 Stripers in about 4 hours all anchovy fishing. Went back with Wife and Kids on 9th and 10th. No wind went back to same cove my wife caught 8 stripers in about 1 hr all on anchovy's. Most were about 1lb but she had a couple 3 lbrs. Caught a boat total of 16. On Friday it was a lot slower we only caught 8 but my son caught a 2.5 lb small mouth on you guessed it a anchovy. Had a great time I have a wife and children that all love to fish. My 10 yr old daughter likes to even clean and fillet, I love that. Jakegonefishing my rdo's are s-s-m waiting for the call.

[indent]Well Cacoon,

I think one of us will have to break down and burn a day to go fishin my new RDO's are TWT, great for fishing no crowds, but bad for half of my fishing buddies. If you get bored head down to Alamo Lake in Arizona, just took a trip down there for three days absolutely killed them. Took a couple FD guys with me we caught bass, crappie and catfish. Even did a little sight fishin as the fish were locking onto the beds, left all the fish there for you. Some of the crappie were pushin 2 lbs. Most of the bass were in the slot there but did catch a couple over four. Tried posting some pics here but site kept kicking them back due to file size, guess I need to catch smaller fish Smile Thinking about hitting Nesbit, Lake by Willy's house has been good lately but they didn't fill it full this year about 4 ft low. Sandhollow has been pretty good, but nothing real big yet. You need to get down to Cottonwood been getting some pretty good fish again down there and have had several nice striper chasing down swim baits. D. Emerton is ready for another Comins trip after hitting those pike so we might head up there for a quick trip latter this month after it quits snowing there. If you want to put together a trip holler I have some comp time to burn. Looks like weather will be cooperating tomorrow so will be going out of Echo I hope I catch a small mouth that can hold up against that monster you photo'd. See you later.

Jake

Fishing was very good today out of Echo despite a little wind blowing caught large and small mouth a several stripers. Had a bad time breaking fish off (six total roke off), think my line was knicked up from fishing Alamo in Arizona. Drop Shottin' Aaron's Magic 5.5" killed the smallies, the large mouth cauth on all types of reaction baits from stick baits and blades too even wacky wormed senko's, but ended up feeding a bunch of senkos to the fish the smaller fish around 1.5 lbs or so would grab the ends and pull the senko right off the hook happened four times in a row at one point. Big fish of the trip about 3.5 large mouth, stripers were running 2-2.5 lbs and were smokin the stick baits and rttle traps. Saw shad getting pushed against the islands and a couple coves on east side.

Great report. I love hearing about bass being caught. I am itching to go get some. Is there anywhere convenient around Echo I can put in my float tube? I have not been there in years and cannot remember the terrain. I am dying to get some smallies. Excellent pictures. Just makes me want to walk out of my job and go fishing.

You can always just put in with your float tube at the marina- you might wanna shoot for a no-wind day though, you will have some kicking to do just to get out of the marina.

Good job on the bass! I love seeing those smallies, and damn can they fight!
