We were out on Ririe Res. today. About a dozen other brave souls getting their last shot at the res. and fish. At Juniper Landing boat dock the water was open and ice floating around for 20 feet out from shore. We had to walk to end of dock and step out on thicker ice (about 16" thick) to get out onto the res. A little spooky but was safe as long as one stayed away from edges of the reservoir.
We fished up the lake near the signs staying "No fishing beyond this point" etc. Very slooooooowwwww fishing results. Only had two "one minute" kokanee schools come through all day. They bit for about one minute and were gone. Saw plenty of fish on bottom but hardly any kokanee higher in the water column. Caught one 10" kokanee and that was it. Figured most of the kokanee were on the upper end of the res. having a kokanee meeting on how to avoid fishermen. Wind blew nasty later in day and got rained and sleeted on. Most everyone on lake had few or none fish except for one guy
who really got into them near the rocky point above the marina dock area. A few more days of warmer weather and it will be suicidal to try to get on the ice.
