Leatherneck invited me to fish the ASTEC TX on Guntersville today. They had 37 boats show up for the fowl weather. We ran down river and started on a mainlake point that was basically a big mussel/ shell bar with mixed grass. On the first few passes we put 4 keepers in the well. The bite slowed and we hit areas in Minky, Town, and Seibold creeks with nothing. We decided to run back up and hit a main river bar were I boated a 7.85# with less than 30minutes to go. We tried hard to cull our smaller fish but couldn't do it. We caught 7 lm and 2 cats, and had 2 good fish pull off that would have helped. We ended with 20.4# good for 3rd place. Steve Patty won with 22.05# and the 2nd place team had BF at 7.90#. It was a fun event and well ran by some nice guys! We caught our fish on 1/2 and 3/4 oz. traps. water was 52-54 degrees.
