Has anyone ever accidentally caught a dolphin?
#1
My wife was asking me the other day if anyone on this board had caught one. Like a bottlenose dolphin or similar. We were watching a show on Vs where they were catching marlin and some grouper and she was worried about dolphins.

thanks

Bottlenose Dolphin are very intelligent. It is difficult even to trick one on a hook and line. I am fishing for Marline now in Mexico and we see the Dolphins do a turnaway when they see our baits.

The Marlin are a different story. [cool]

Porpoises are very intelligent they know what to and not to eat. I have had kingfish while hooked eaten by porpoises and only the head left .I doubt anyone will ever catch one by line and hook.

Real smart to trick, have never heard of any Dolphins caught on rod and reel. Been fishing the oceans for 35 years

They are far and away the best bait stealers that swim. Only the seal comes close.

We see them all the time in Naples Fl off the pier. Throw out a live bait, 15 seconds tops and they will have it. Mouthing it at just the right spot with just the calulated angle to pull the hook out of the bait with no chance of ever being hooked.

If a mistake was ever made, and someone hooked one, kiss that rod and reel goodby as the Dolphin streaks away at an unstoppable 30mph, or turns and precisley snips the line.

I love playing tug of war with the dogs. haha I have pulled my share in as well. I guess the next worse thing to accidentally hooking a Dolphin would be hooking an Angel Fish. They don't stop and can spool out 400yds of line in less than 2 minutes.[cool]
