A buddy was camping at CF over the weekend and asked if I could pick him up and fish a while. I said sure and when I got there he had 4 kids 12 and under with him. I had planned to bass fish but could just see the tangles and hooks in heads that bass fishing might produce so I called a great buddy, won't say who(he knows who he is) and I went to plan B. We fished CF for crappie with panfish assassins and crappie stingers and got 5 good keepers. Marked lots of bait and crappie but it was mid afternoon and I think that we may have been lucky to get what we got. The crappie seemed to be suspended under the bait at 6-8 feet. After dropping the group off at the dock I went and fished for bass and checked out some new crappie spawning areas. The bass didn't cooperate but I did catch a good crappie on a stumpy point in one of the HBSP sloughs that I had never fished before for spawners. The one I caught was full of eggs, expected to catch a bunch more there but maybe it was the time of day. Will try it again in a few days. The water temps were in the 62 degree range everywhere I fished. It was a beautiful day to be out there. Had a lot of fun and I think that almost everyone caught a fish. That makes it even better. It was great having the new boat as with more than two people the old fish and ski was tough to get around in. A 21.5 ft bass boat makes a great crappie rig! That's the main reason I got it.
