I called Bassert this AM to see if he was up to a few hours of crappie fishing. I am looking for fish for the upcoming crappie tx on the 11th of this month. He was recovering from a cold, but I didn't have to twist his arm to get him to fish with me today. We had a great day. We landed 72 crappie, mostly females, and the majority were keeper size, but we let everything go today. The females had not spawned. We were fishing in the river and those fish are a couple of weeks behind the fish in Island Cove and other spawning coves. 3 bluegills and 1 little lm bass aggravated us also. Pat hooked into a catfish that he couldn't do anything with. It started for deeper water and after a 1 or 2 minute fight, cut the line off a metal bar on a dock. Slimed his line. emoBang

We caught our fish on panfish assassins and bg shads in various colors. S/P with the tails dyed chartreuse seemed to be the best color, but we caught them on electric chicken, black/chartreuse, blue/chartreuse, albino shad/chartreuse, and Polo's favorite color in the panfish assassin.

We positioned the boat in 20 to 22 feet of water and the fish mostly were 8-10 feet deep. After the hot bite which lasted over an hour, (when the count was 4), then all we had to do was make about a 15-20 ft cast and just let the lure do a pendulum glide/drop and watch the line. About 10-12 seconds down, the line would twitch, we would set the hook and the fight was on. We had numerous doubles. Great fun. Pat must be good luck. Everytime that I have had him out, we have had great catching days. Hopefully, WLG and I will have a similiar day tomorrow. emoBigSmile emoGeezer
