I was alone on the river!!!! Not one single boat ventured within sight of where I was fishing. I went to cardiac rehab this morning, and when I got home the wind forecast wasn't as bad as it had been and they were running water through the Chick dam at a rate that excited me! Off to the river wearing my vest the whole time. Whitecaps were rolling but the wind was out of the south +/- so the area I wanted to fish was reasonably protected. Of course, getting there and back was a bit of an adventure, but no particular danger. Lots of pounding and spray, but it was sure worth it!

The cats were on the opposite side of the river from the last time I went. They were not stacked up, but were scattered within maybe a 50 yard stretch. Skipjack was the bait, and there weren't any small fish there that I could tell. I caught 2 under 10lbs, 6 of them 12-17lbs, a 30, a 48+, and the 79.

I could handle the smaller fish, but I just couldn't get the big fish up for a typical EricM picture emoBig
. I knew it was close to another line class record for me, so I took it to shore and hung the scale from a tree, waddled over to it with the cat in the net, and finally got it hung on the scale. TWO POUNDS SHORT! If I had shoved a couple of skipjack down it's throat it would have made it, but that's just not right and I KNOW I'll catch one big enough one of these days. So close!!!!! emoDoh emoDoh I was and still remain absolutely thrilled with the fish - missing the record by so little simply gives me more hope! emoDance

I admit that I called Spurhunter on the way home just to hurt him emoBig

and he did sound rather pained on the phone!! emoBadLanguage

Here are a handful of pics of today's haul!!
