polo-dog, Chickamauga, Crappie, 3 TARPs 4/13/09, Freida

Fished this afternoon after 2pm, expecting the storms to push me off the lake at some point but they still haven't come yet. It was windy and had to fish some new area of the lake that was out of the wind. I was pleasantly surprised at what I found. The water temp was 59 most everywhere I went. The wind only hit me and almost blew me off the boat from time to time. It was tough to present the 1/32 oz jigs because of the wind but I ended up catching 13 keepers including 3 TARP crappie. The two biggest were almost 15 inches, one male and one what looked to be a spawned out female. The female weighed 2 1/4lbs and the male right at 2lbs. I had one other fish that was just short of a TARP fish. Panfish assassins and crappie stingers were both effective. When I broke one off I used the other until I either moved or ended up with two rods without a bait. Most of the fish were caught near 20+feet of water on a 6-8 count. Many of the hits were not seen by me but the line felt like it was hung and it was hung in a fish. That's just the way it is when the wind blows a huge bow in the line. I probably had a lot of hits that I never knew I had. It was a challenge being out there and instead of numbers like last Friday with DK I ended up with quality. I think I only caught 3 non-keepers the whole afternoon. That was strange as I assumed that I would catch a bunch of small ones. The creek was too muddy to fish today back by the house so I went looking for cleaner water. Here's a pic of the two biggies, the lady in my left and the young buck in my right.
