bama314, Off Shore, Orange Beach, AL, Mingo Snapper, Gag Grouper, Trigger Fish, 4/20/09
#1
The wife and I took a trip down to Orange Beach, AL for a few days and I was lucky enough to get on a 6 person charter that went about 20 miles off shore. The rough water had kept the boats at the marina for 3 weeks prior according to our captain. We went after some mingo snapper and quickly got our limit (60) at the first stop. We then went after some trigger fish and whatever else we could find. We ended up catching one nice trigger fish and a 20 lb gag grouper along with a few 10 lb red snappers. The red snapper were not in season, so when we would start to catch them, we had to pull our lines in and move. This turned out to be a problem, because the red snapper were everywhere! We spent most of the day running from them. I don't know how they did the surveys that said they are overfished and needed the strict limits and seasons. We could have filled the boat with red snapper if we would have been allowed to keep them. Either way, I had a blast and can't wait to get back down there.
