tyler ware, Chickamauga, Crappie, 4-26-09
#1
SO I got to the lake around 7 am hoping to get some crappie. Saw ol DK and Hal heading out, so I knew it would be a good day if they were going out on the weekend. With Drumkings advise I fished on type of structure. Caught 2 keepers on the first spot. Next spot was a little better. Get a huge crappie to the boat and realize I cannot just jerk it in, so in the decision to lip it or net it, the jig comes out and it swims off. Probably 13"+ pm that one. Few cast later I hook something that just takes off, fast like a crappie, but it just instantly snaps the line. I adjust the drag and cast on. Well a few cast later, set the hook and line isi just peeling. Goes around the post of the dock and snap. Never saw either one of these fish. Move on down and try different spot. First cast, something nails it, kicks hard, throws water and snaps the line while pulling drag. I am a little upset at this point in time. Well move back to the second spot and catch about 8 more keepers, but threw one back because it was the biggest crappie I have ever caught. Too big to eat, good to let swim again. It was 15", and fought like a champ. Weighed over 2lb on the deliars. My PB for sure. Ended the day with 10 keepers, about 7 throwback, 1 yellow bass, one very nice fighting cat fish. I tried many different areas just like the one I was catching them with no luck, not even one hit. Water temp was in the 66ish range. Fish were mostly 4 or 6 but few caught on 8. Most fish were right off the bottom, if they were a six count, then a six and a half count would hit bottom. I would post a picture of me holding the fish, but too much back ground, don't want to kill this spot just yet. Also saw xldvee running down the river, exchanged waves. Truck back on the trailer at 11:30. All the fish I caught had released their eggs or were males.
