LIGHTHOUSE POINT, Fla. (WSVN) -- One fisherman is recovering from severe injuries after a swordfish jumped in his boat.
John Barfield was one of four fishermen who set sail from the Lighthouse Point Marina aboard a 31-foot boat. They wanted to make a big catch, and they got one. "We were getting ready to lift her in and she flipped her tail, and the next thing you know, you're on the other side of the boat and a swordfish on top of you, Angry and beating on you," said Barfield.

The 355-pound swordfish used its bill to break Barfield's collarbone and bruise his forehead. And the hook he'd used to reel in the really big fish, wound up really deep in the flesh above his right knee.

Despite all his injuries, Barfield was in good spirits when two paramedics arrived on the scene. "It was truly amazing to see his test of tolerance for the amount of pain that he was probably enduring to his leg," said Paramedic Erica Gleeson.

Even though he just survived a swordfish attack, Barfield is ready to get out there again. "I'd go fishing tomorrow if I could, but I will wait until the leg gets better," he said.

Barfield has three stitches on his forehead, and he said it will take six weeks for his collarbone to heal. As for the fish, well, Barfield said he is planning a big feast for family and friends.
