mlock, Hiawassee River - Hwy 58, LM, 05/09/2009, Chris - Friend
#1
Had a friend invite me to fish a tx with him that his work was holding down at hwy 58 this morning. I had never fished there so I took him up on it. 3 Fish limit. 7am-4pm. Quite possibly took the top spot for worst fishing day ever. Whats funny is I dont know of another fishing day that held the top spot, but this day received automatic top ranking. I was also wondering, if anyone else despises and detests this area or body of water as much as I do...now. All we saw were Gar and Turtles. Out of about 10 boats i think 3 weighed in, and 1 of those had the limit...and from what I understand they went to Watts Bar...smart move. We pitched, flipped, cranked, finessed, you name it. I lost about 3 or 4 shakey heads because of the Gar. There was one time though when I was pitching around some docks and as the worm when down so did the Gar and before I could do anything he had it. Lets just say by my hookset or attempt to snatch away from him that he earned that ZOOM and Gamakatsu. Im quite positive his teeth infested mouth shredded the line before he even felt resistance. At around 11am the Clouds got thick and wind kicked in and the heavens opened. Luckily we were half a mile from B&B Marina. We docked it and if he hadnt had the bilge pump on in the boat it may have sank from the rain. Never thought I was sit down and eat a burger while in a tournament, but it was better than the lightning outside. Anyway we caught a couple and Chris managed to hook a carp about 1 inch from the tail fin with a Spinner Bait. emoScratch We thought he hung some river monster...intense. And that was about it. Other than that it was pretty empty trip. Sad But it was a day of fishing. I was surprised because the fishing has been pretty good on the Chick, just north. But its day-to-day and you never know. Anyway, hope you guys have better luck than we did if you plan on going up to the 58 bridge anytime soon. Look forward to seeing you guys at Grasshopper. Take Care.

Matt
