As some of you know, me and my husband do alot of surf fishing. We have a question and any input would be appreciated. Last time we went surf fishing we caught a couple of sharks. My husband decided he wanted to dry the jaws of the fish. So we went way out by our shed and he hung them and let the flies, etc.. do their job.. Well it's been a couple weeks and all that is left is the hide and it's really hard getting it all off. Is there anyone out there that has done this or knows anything about it? Maybe an easier way to get the hide off?
Thanks,
Renee'

Getting Sharks teeth cleaned up is a hard thing to do. I have found that the more skin you can get off before you let it air dry the easier it is to do. When I air dry the teeth I used a stick to hold the teeth the way I want it. When it dries it will stay that way. I used a hobby knife to cut off the dried skin next to the teeth but it is hard to get it all off. Also if you put bleach on the teeth it will turn white. Hope this help you.

Hello Guys,
I never have had the pleasure of trying this on shark jaws, but used to tan the hides of animals I hunted and used salt after scrapping as much as I could with a knife. My guess would be scrape, salt, let sit, scrape, bleach, but that's just a guess.

the only way I know of to fully clean bone is to use ant hills.
find a helthy ant hill and set your item wehtey it be a deer scull or a turtle shell ocer top the hill, (it dose not take much of a hill to take care of an item.)
this works wonders on turtle shells. then I polish them and put a coat of polyurithene on. I have done this with all sorts of small items up to the size of deer skelitons with good results,
the time it takes is not as long as one might think. a deboned deer skeliton about a week and a half on top of a 1 foot ant hill.
a 2-3 inch ant hill in the back yard will take care of a big turtle shell in a couple weeks. picked clean.
