I only do freshwater now. I live in Indiana. I'm going on vacation in FL for a few days. I was wondering if my freshwater stuff would be okay for salt too? I'm probably just going to be fishing from shore or docks or rocks. Will my stuff I have now work? Or should I take my catfish poles and ugly stik?

Yeah, sure. Unless you have really old (1960's) equipment go ahead and bring your trout and bass stuff. I use a 7wt medium action fiberglass for smallmouth up north that works great on pavon and bonefish here. It's just that the reel needs to hold about 200 yds of gelspun, Spectra or Micron backing. The flies are a bit different, but you can buy them here. For tarpon you need a stiff 12+ wt rod. If you have an Ugly Stik model, it'll work here too.

If you are bringing a flyswatter, then you may want to invest in some shooting line just in case the breeze picks up like it usually does this time of year.[cool]

It's going to be in July. Is the wind bad down there? I'm going to the Treasure Island area of FL.

July - no wind - just blistering HOT and Humid! If there's a tropical storm or 'cane, then there's wind and you don't want to be here.

That is right. No wind in July unless the Canes pick up. Other than that, bring a hockey mask at night time for the Palmetto bugs. hehe
They are kamikaze style at night.[cool]
