MrWiskers, Chick, CFF Night Tourny, 6-5-2009 and 6-6-2009, Tyler Ware
#1
Two weeks ago when Tyler and I decided to fish this thing I put together a game plan that consisted of 4 spots I wanted to fish. At launch we ran waaaaay down river to a spot I had not fished this year but held a lot of fish last summer. Within 10 minutes we had 4-5 fish in the boat with our big fish of the night a 3.75 lber all on DJW spinner baits. The spot was loaded with fish but most of them were short. We managed to scratch out a limit within the first hour of the tourny but had a 15.25 lm and 13" spot that had to go. All fish were suspended about 5-10 feet down in deep water. When we left this spot I think we had boated around 16 bass. Not bad. Fish boated here were on DJW spinnerbaits, swimbaits, Powerminnows, and Sammy.
Once it started getting dark we moved to our second spot which was a subtile point on a rip rap bank. The fish were there as well. We boated two more keepers off this spot and got rid of the small LM and spot. We also boated a few shots and missed a bunch of tail biters. Fish caught here were on Chigger craws, Midnight special spinnerbaits, and shakey head worm. Fish were holding on riprap in about 5-10 feet of water. At this point we had the fish we weighed in.
The next spot we hit was a community hole in Wolftever that ususally produces good size fish at night. We only got one hit on this spot and Tyler lost it at the boat (short LM). So we headed to a bank I had never fished before that had a row of docks. We boated 5 off this bank with 1 keeper that did not help the cause. Shakey head worm and Midnight special did the trick on this spot.
The final spot was a deep water bank at Chester Frost. The "good" part of the bank already had a boat on it so we hit the other end. Boated one short on a shakey head worm.
We headed in early and was tied up at 2:30. We ended up boating 29 bass with 9 keepers. We had 4 spots and the rest were largemouths. We ended up in eight spot with 13.25 lbs and won our money back. We had a great time and if I believe if we had stayed on our #2 spot the rest of the night we might have done better. Great turnout and it was good to see the same old crew and meet some new faces.
In the pic I look pissed off. I wasn't, just dead dog sleepy. Remember it was almost 4 AM when that pic was taken. Attached is a pic of the baits that we caught the fish we weighed in on.
Congrats to the winners!!!
