Rapala Partners With State Fish Art Contest
#1
Brooklyn Center, Minnesota-Wildlife Forever is pleased to announce a partnership with Rapala® and the State Fish Art Contest. A recent donation of fishing gear from Rapala included rod and reel combos and fishing lures to be handed out to the winners of the national art contest during the Eleventh annual State Fish Art Expo, August 1, 2009 in Bloomington, Minnesota.

"Rapala's dedication to getting youth involved in fishing is what makes this type of conservation partnership successful. The State-Fish Art Contest uses visual arts to educate students about fisheries, aquatic conservation, and the joys to be found in an afternoon spent along a river or stream. When Rapala steps in to provide quality equipment and lures; youth truly get hooked" said Doug Grann, President of Wildlife Forever.

Winners from around the country will be honored on August 1st, in the Best Buy Rotunda at Mall of America.

A massive art display will feature all the winning artwork from across the country and an award ceremony will recognize the talented young artists. Contest winners who attend the Expo will be awarded a special fishing rod and reel and other great prizes. The artists and their winning artwork will also be recognized at the Minnesota Twins baseball game on Sunday, August 2nd.

"We are glad to be a part of this highly successful program. Putting top quality fishing products that actually work into the hands of youth really helps to keep them into the sport, hopefully for life" said Kelly Brockpahler, Marketing Manager for Rapala®.<br />
About the State-Fish Art Contest

The Wildlife Forever State-Fish Art Contest encourages young artists nationwide to create an illustration of their state-fish and a written composition on behavior, habitat, and efforts to conserve it. Entries are categorized by grade level: 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. Up to three winners are selected from each state and invited to the Mall of America in Minnesota to be honored at the State-Fish Art Expo, August 1st.

The Wildlife Forever State-Fish Art Contest allows educators to use art as a "medium" for teaching important lessons on conservation of aquatic natural resources and the wonderful underwater world of fish. The free lesson plan includes extensive background information, a species identification section profiling each state-fish, and a detailed "fishy" glossary.
