Patrick and I ran north to a popular community hole where I've seen as many as 10 boats jockying for position this time of year. I was very surprised that NO ONE was there and NO ONE ELSE showed up the entire 4 1/2 hours we fished there. Got a couple of bites early on a Texas rigged 10 inch worm but put nothing in the boat. Starting stroking a 1/2 oz green pumpkin jig on the ledge and finally got a 4 1/2 lber to bite. Patrick caught the next keeper (15 inches) and lost another one 10 yards from the boat. We were afraid that fish he lost would cost us but Pat landed a solid 3 lber 5 minutes later. Got our limit in the boat so we spent the rest of the tournament upgrading. I caught another solid 3 lber shortly thereafter and we were able to cull the 15 incher. Patrick then caught our largest fish around 9 o'clock on a swimbait (5 1/2 lbs). We continued to catch solid 3 lbers (mine were caught dragging a 3/4 oz cinnamon/purple football head along the ledge) but could never upgrade. Ended up winning the tournament with 13.48 lbs. All of our fish were caught deep, meaning they spent the morning belly up in the livewell. Kept the water circulating continuously while occasionally adding ice and Rejuvinade. Rogie Brown was nice enough to fizz all of our fish when we got back to the weigh-in. They all swam merrily away to be caught again. Thanks to everyone for keeping their fish healthy. To my knowledge, only one fish was lost among 36 boats. See all of you in 2 weeks at Nickajack.
