I was fishing out by honeymoon island in FL and I caught 3 of these things. They never hooked, they just held on so tight to my lure.

That is an oyster toad fish. Very common from your neck of the woods up to mine in SC. Watch out for the teeth, they are small, but sharp. Nothing else on their anatomy to worry about.

LOL, I tried that when I was a teenager fishing on a pier. Didn't work out too well for my thumb. [
