striperchase, Watts Bar, Stripers & Bass, 07/23/09, Dad
#1
Met dad at the boat ramp at 6:30 and we were the only ones in the parking lot but that was short lived. Headed to the dam in search of bait which has been tough to get lately. We found threadfin in the trash hole up against the slope and had all we needed in about ten mins. Went out and started drifing for stripers. I was the first to hook up and drag in about a 10lb slimey cat. The next couple drifts produced nothing. Finnaly my dad hooked up and brought in a striper, a small one about 8lbs. He then caught another one the very next drift about 6lbs. We kept drifting until about 8:45 catching only one more striper that I knocked off at the boat trying to get the robogrips on him. emoDoh

We then headed over to the wing wall to try for some bass. We were both fishing but my dad was the only one catching. He caught bass after bass after bass I think 9 total the hour we sat there. I only caught one cat for the day and my dad had 12 fish total when I had to leave at 10:30 to get home to the kids so my wife could go to work. He was headed back up to the dam to fish a couple more hours when I left hope he caught more. Pics of some nice threadfin, stripers, and the better bass. The last pic was of a 5 lber but was about the ugliest big bass I have seen. It had a big black patch on its head one eye was glazed over white and alot of bad red skin irritations. It swam off ok but wonder how old she was. All fish were caught on live shad in the tailwaters and released unharmed.
