Determined to fish today, Catfish1 and I put in at about 6:45 and went on a hunt for crappie. It was a balmy 24* at the ramp and I looked like an Eskimo goin' seal hunting instead of an ole southern boy goin' fishin' emoTongue Even with the temps it was a good day, not too much wind and only a handful of fishermen out today, did I mention that it was COLD emoQuestion emoSmile Jim said that he thought about it but was havin' too much fun to feel the cold, emoSmile
I think it may have been Catfish1's best day ever for crappie because we caught some really nice ones along with him catching a nice TARP Black Crappie, emoThumbsup
Did I mention that it was COLD, naaww, only when the boat was goin, emoCool
I didn't catch a TARP today but had one that was 13 & 7/8" and one that was 13 & a half with several 12's.
We ended the day with an even 50 total crappie and 2 little 'gills. Jim took 28 home with him that were all over 11 inches so they will have a nice fish fry when he thaws out, emoSmile Did I mention that it was COLD when we started, emoSmile It did warm up to about 35* by the time we quit and headed for the trailer. At least we didn't have to dip the rod to get the ice off toward the end of our day, emoThumbsup
Water temp was 49*-51* and fish were caught mostly in 18 to 30 FOW on about a 6 count early then moved down to a 12 later as the sun got up. Bait of choice today was BG crystal shad, some with tail lights and some without.
It was an enjoyable day, (Did I mention that it was COLD when we started emoQuestion ) emoSmile But most of the time we didn't feel it while catchin' several doubles and at one time I had six casts and six catches, emoBigSmile That was fun emoThumbsup
Enjoyed Catfish1's company and he's welcome to keep the backseat warm anytime, emoThumbsup
