Around 9:00 this morning, two lunatics were spotted leaving Tyner Lane ramp with some kitty litter buckets and sticks poking out the top of them. They looked like refugees from Siberia. Did Labman and Bassert go again this AM?

A balmy 26 degrees and slight north wind blowing into the face of the gentlemen whose sanity is in question greeted the guys on their way to construct some crappie condos. Mission accomplished without incident. Not another single boat was out and so no one even knows the area that these condos are located. I will show a pic of their final destination when I finish this report.

After dropping the buckets that were loaded with concrete, we won't ever have to worry about the buckets getting turned over. The 4 condos were placed in a nice little row about 8-10 feet apart on some very fishy looking water. After getting the last one overboard, we trolled over them to see if we could spot them. On the first pass, we only saw 2 of them, but they already had a fish on the top of them. A few passes later, we finally spotted the other two and 3 out of 4 already have fish on them. Probably a resident bass. Not only will I crappie fish these in the spring, but I will also bass fish there a lot. I expect to land a bigun before long.

Then we went crappie fishing, if you could call it that with all the current, muddy water, north wind, water temps from 47 to 49 degrees, high water, etc. Things that were stacked against us. And it turned out to be a hard day's fishing. We only caught 11 crappie, about 1/2 of them were keeper size, nothing over 12.5 inches and 1 drum. We caught most of the crappie on docks that were back in coves out of the current. Most of the fish that I caught were around an 8 count. I don't know how deep Hal's fish were. The drum was shallow. We used 1/16 oz jigheads with various plastic trailers. Yellow and white/chartreuse were the best colors.

That's about it for the report. Hope you guys have a great Christmas party tomorrow. I will be out of town for a family dinner in Cumberland county and won't get back in time to be there with you. Merry Christmas from the Drumking.

emoBig
